The Birth of Inferno Roller-Shutters:
A Fire-Resistant Revolution
David Horobin saw the need for fire protection for homes in fire-prone areas after experiencing wildfire destruction firsthand. A wildfire leveled his house just days after he closed escrow. Motivated to prevent future losses, he developed Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) for safer construction methods. But Horobin realized that windows and doors still presented a major problem during wildfires.
In 2022, Horobin recognized that rolling shutters could be integrated into his product design. Working with Sun and Security president Glenn Roehl, they developed Inferno Roller Shutters to meet and surpass ASTM fire-resistance tests. Today, these products are gaining attention from fire officials as a new level of protection.
The increasing threat of wildfires and emerging insurance challenges led Horobin to launch Inferno Roller Shutters, Inc. With Sun and Security, we’ve developed fire-rated shutter windows and doors that allow Poway homeowners to prepare for fire emergencies while preserving the appearance and value of their homes.
