A devastating wildfire claimed David Horobin’s home in 1985, days after closing on his new house. The architect channeled this personal tragedy into researching fire-resistant building methods and construction materials. His extensive research led him to champion Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) as effective wildfire protection solutions for residential construction.
Despite advances in fire-resistant construction, Horobin discovered that windows and doors remain critical vulnerability points during wildfires. He pursued window protection systems that combined practical fire resistance with attractive design. His 2022 collaboration with Glenn Roehl, president of Sun and Security, produced Inferno Roller Shutters—superior fire protection systems that surpass ASTM fire-resistance requirements and earned endorsements from firefighters.
