The Birth of Inferno Roller-Shutters: A Fire-Resistant Revolution
David Horobin’s journey with Inferno Roller-Shutters began in 1985 when he lost his home in the Santa Cruz Mountains to a wildfire just days after closing escrow. As an architect, he saw the weaknesses of traditional “stick-frame” homes and focused on enhancing fire-resistant construction. His work led to the development of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF), now commonly used in fire-resistant homes. Realizing that windows and doors are critical vulnerabilities, he sought an effective and visually appealing fireproof shutter system.
In 2022, Horobin had a breakthrough realizing that roller shutters could protect against fires. Partnering with Glenn Roehl, president of Sun and Security, they developed the Inferno Roller Shutters, which exceeded ASTM fire-resistance standards and received endorsements from fire officials.
Recognizing the urgent need due to increasing wildfires and insurance concerns, Horobin founded Inferno Roller Shutters, Inc. These innovative fire-resistant shutters, in collaboration with Sun and Security, now provide homeowners vital protection against the rising threat of wildfires.
